Can You Take a Ferry to Israel? Athens-Cyprus-Haifa

Cruising on the Mediterranean sounds attractive right? Can you find a ferry as transportation to Israel?  Let’s see what options you have from Greece or Cyprus if you don’t want to fly.

1.Athens (Piraeus) to Haifa

Though Israel is right next to Mediterranean Sea, options are limited. There’s only this ferry company people talk about on TripAdvisor. On their website it says there’s a ride once a week to Israel.

Once a week
But I wrote to them…. (2018.10) Nah, they don’t take passengers anymore.

2.There’s No Other Option….

According to The Man in Seat 61, the ferry companies Poseidon Lines & Salamis Lines stopped running this route as of 2001. And there was another ferry company that used to go from Cyprus to Israel in 2008. But they are no longer in business.
So just fly! It’s cheap and much faster!

3.If You Want to Be on the Mediterranean Sea…

There’s Mamo cruise from Haifa, and this will probably be the best for value option. All-inclusive cruise for 60-80 euros a day. It goes to Cyprus or Rhodes (Greece). Not expensive and I think most passengers will be Israeli, which means you’ll still have an Israeli experience.
200-300 Euros
:Every month
Avi Abelow who runs Ari Fuld’s rampage after his death, took this cruise last year. So you can be sure that this company is still in business.

4.Other Cruises…

If you want a regular cruise with stops in Israel, then you can check Cruisedirect.com. But of course, this won’t allow you an opportunity to explore Israel in depth.
Celebrity Cruise makes trips to Israel too! Leaving from Italy, out of the 12 days trip, you will spend 3 days in Israel (2 nights in Ashdod, and 1 night in Haifa), and 1 night in Ephesus Turkey, 2 nights in Greece…  Cruise options are here

5.Ferry Rides in Jaffa and Haifa…

If you just want to be on a boat ride on the Mediterranean Sea, there’s one in Jaffa. One round is for 30-50NIS and takes about 30 minutes.
Or you can take a ferry from Haifa to Akko. It won’t be as cost effective as using #501 Day Pass (21.5NIS a day), but it can be fun for those who want to be on the sea!
:30NIS (One-way) 55NIS (Round Trip)
It doesn’t run everyday!
  1. From Akko:  10AM/3PM (Weekdays) 9:30AM/12:30PM/3: 30 PM (Weekend)
  2. From Haifa:  11AM/4PM (Weekdays) 11AM/2PM/4: 30 PM (Weekend)
I hope the info above helps those who are planning for a trip! I’d go for Mano cruise from Israel. Feel free to share other info if you’ve been just on a ferry/cruise/boat trip!
