Event: Jerusalem Open House (Oct 18-20, 2018)

Open House, the weekend which many institutions or buildings will be open to the public for free. Tours or workshops are offered too.  This is an international event but what surprises me is Jerusalem is one of those cities! Let’s see which buildings are there in Jerusalem to be unveiled.

Jerusalem Open House!

For 1 weekend, there are more than 130 events in Jerusalem. That’s a lot of choices! You can see short descriptions on the website. Some are Reservation Required and some are Open Event. If a tour is offered, then it’s likely the number of participants is restricted. Arrive early if you can!

This is an excellent opportunity to see historical buildings (many turned to hotels), mansions or church buildings…

And though the website is in English, not all events are conducted in English. You can use the filter to find the ones offered in English or the ones that interest you.

These are some examples which I think worth recommending:

1.Beneath Jaffa Gate

I didn’t know you could go under Jaffa Gate…. sounds fun!

2.The city entrance tunnel project

You get to hear about city planning underground. Sounds fun! (okay, looks like I like everything that allows me to go under!)

3.Dead Sea Scrolls Lab

Oooo…. this is an interesting opportunity.  The Dead Sea Scroll on display in Israel Museum’s Shrine of the Book is only a replica. The real scroll is in the Dead Sea Scroll lab underneath the Shrine of the Book, and it looks like 15 participants will have this opportunity to see this lab!

4. The building where chief Rabbi works!

And good views

5.The place of masons…

which I didn’t know even exists in Jerusalem.

The event dates are different every year, and by the way, there is Open House Tel Aviv too! If you can’t make it to this year, don’t worry there’s always next year!
